Little do they know, items that are made of paper, glass or plastic are not all recyclable. Many people are oblivious when it comes to recycling, and use the following method: “If it is plastic, glass, or paper, then it can be recycled.” However this method of recycling is what is causing the most harm to the environment. There are certain requirements that have to be met in order for waste to be recycled. Many people are not aware of how to recycle their waste. If teachers would follow the labels on the bins, and encourage their students to do so as well, then the overall environmental footprint of Radnor Township will be improved. This causes problems with lazy students who do not want to get up to go to one of the bins across the room, and they will carelessly discard their waste into the incorrect bin. Furthermore, some teachers like to space out the bins. Since the beginning of the school year, everyone in her classes has been guilty of misplacing waste, including me. In addition to this problem, some classrooms are even missing bins! My biology class, for example, does not have a trash can! Where do I put my used tissues? I have to decide between recycling them in the plastic bin or the paper bin, neither of which suit my needs. After the final bell of the day rings, the school janitors collect the contents of each bin, which by now are mixed and matched beyond belief, and in this condition, they are sent to the companies that reuse and get rid of the waste. I have observed this happening many times during the school day. Often, the misplaced trash is carelessly left in the incorrect bin. Many students, and even teachers do not pay attention to where they put their waste, and randomly discard it into the closest bin, whether it is in the proper place or not. It is expected that the people in Radnor Schools would follow the labels of the bins. The main concern is reducing the existing waste and preventing future accumulation.ĭuring the 7 hour school day, both students and faculty use common, single use items that are later discarded in the three bins by the door. This can be observed in Radnor Township Schools, as well as in other areas. One of the main reasons that the Earth is filled with pollution from human waste is because of the oblivious and unconscious ways of treating our trash.
